“I was seven years old when I discovered my grandfather’s camera equipment in his basement. Tucked away in the corner next to the old records, I saw the boxes full of slides and negatives. I ran my fingers across the labels that read, “Wedding”, “Christmas ’52” and “honeymoon”. I blew off the dust, removed the lid and was ushered into a moment that forever changed my life. I slowly picked up a old 35mm slide, and there, in that dusty old basement, I sat alone with someone’s happiest moment between my fingertips. I remember my heart beating faster as I held each one up to the light. If I looked closely, I could make out the outline of smiles and laughter, hugs and kisses.
These were cherished moments.

You know, sometimes I think it’s so easy to take for granted the fact that we are literally able to stop memories in time. It’s such an unbelievable miracle if you actually stop and think about it.
That quirky smile your mom has when people sing “happy birthday” to her. The mix of exhilaration, exhaustion and overwhelming ecstasy as the doctor places your newborn baby on your chest. That untainted spark of pure joy in your child’s eyes when they laugh from the belly. You know that one right? It may be my favorite, because it somehow only seems to be present in the fleeting years of childhood.
All the nuances. All the details. The small things that make a person’s life meaningful and special. Are you imagining them right now?
These are the reasons why Photography is so very special, and beyond that…so immensely important. Even the most recent moments tend to play like a copy of a copy in the movie reel of recollection, fading over time. And that’s why I’ve decided to dedicate my life to preserving that beauty for you. As much as we try to log and file away the memories in our minds, nothing beats the real, tangible manifestation of the times that have brought us joy, love and even sorrow. It is my hope that everyone who comes across this page is inspired to stop relegating their memories to a box in the basement (or a CD in your desk drawer!).
